PS-B  System Security Levels (DBA Classic Only)

Purpose of Program

Use this program to create security levels for different categories of users.  Each user will then be assigned security levels by company in PS-C  Company Logon Access.

Within each security level you can specify at the program level within each module whether users assigned to that security level are to have access to the program or not.

You may create as many as 99 security levels and there is no limit to the number of users that can be assigned through PS-C to each security level.  You can assign a 45 character description to each security level for reference purposes..

The security levels defined in this program are system-wide, meaning they apply universally to all companies.

General Program Operation

You are first presented with a Security Levels lookup window that will display any existing security levels.  To create a new security level, click on Add or press <Insert>.  You are swapped to another screen where you can enter a Security Level numeric code and a Description.  Once these two fields are completed the record is saved and you are returned to the Security Levels lookup window where your new security level record will now be displayed.  Security levels are created with full access to all modules so to limit access you must set to N those modules or programs the level should not have access to.  Make sure the first level you create is the System Administrator level with no restrictions so you can get back into the password module later.

To define the security settings within each security level, highlight the Level desired, then click on Menu Access or press F3.  You are taken to another screen where you can click or highlight and press <Enter> on the menu within which you wish to set access options.  You will be taken to another screen where you see a grid of menu options.

The grid on the screen represents the menus within each master menu.  From left to right, choices A through T correspond with each menu's letter choices.

In the left hand column titled /N/C? if you enter a Y or N, all items on that menu will be set to Y or N and the cursor will move on to the next menu.  If you enter a C, the cursor moves to right and allows you to individually set each menu option to a Y or N.  There may be more choices available on the grid than there are actual menu choices.  For example, the Sales Analysis Menu only goes to "SA-N" yet the security grid is available up to "T".  The additional grid positions are for future programs or for custom programs.  If you are not using them, it does not matter whether they are set to Y or N.

When you are finished setting the security for this level, click on the Save button (or press F10) to save the record.  You will be returned to the Menu Access selection screen where you can select another menu.  When finished, click on Exit (or press <Esc>) and you will be taken back to the main Security Levels lookup window.

To change an existing security level description, highlight the Level desired and click on Edit or press <Enter>, make your change, then click on Exit or press <Esc> to return to the Security Levels lookup window.

To change an existing security level's menu access settings, highlight the Level desired, click on Menu Access (or press F3), make your changes, then click on Exit (or press <Esc>) to return to the Security Levels lookup window.

To delete a security level, highlight the Level desired and click on Delete or press <Delete>.  You will be warned that any users assigned to this level will lose their access rights and that all access settings for this level will be lost.  Click OK or enter Y and the security level and all its settings will be deleted.

When finished making entries, click on Exit (or press <Esc>) to return to the Password Security menu.
